  1. AMBI Even Clear Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30

AmbiEvenClear

This daily moisturizer covers all the bases. It has soy extract and Vitamins C & E to help fade hyperpigmentation and improve skin tone. Plus, it has SPF 30 for further skin protection. Even though it has a pretty high SPF, it doesn’t make my skin look ashy or show a white film. It doesn’t make my skin feel greasy and I have pretty oily skin. I used to have pretty bad acne and a terrible habit of picking at it. The picking led to hyperpigmentation from the acne scars. I got this product to try as a daily moisturizer and within a few months my skin markedly improved. Everyone noticed and was complimenting my skin, even my father. That was several years ago and I haven’t strayed away from it.

  1. Dudu Osun Black Soap

DuduOsunBarBox

This soap does just about everything. Like Hadassah of Nappily Nigerian Girl says, black soap is our castile soap. It can literally be used from head to toe. I use it for my face and body every day. It’s my go-to cleanser. Like I mentioned, I used to have acne on my face and my back. Believe me; I tried everything to help the issue. I don’t remember where I heard about black soap from but I saw it in my local supermarket, I picked it up. Besides, it didn’t cost too much. If it didn’t work or it irritated my skin, it would be too bad. I’m so glad I did because my skin really improved. It has exfoliating, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties; all of which are helpful to combat acne.

  1. Savvy and Chic Silk 2-way scarf

SavvyChicBonnet(2)

If you read anything on the interwebs about being on a hair journey, one thing that’s important is using a silk/satin scarf or a silk/satin pillowcase. However, I was using a bonnet with a fabric elastic band. I suspect the band was rubbing on my hairline while I was sleeping and causing issues. Also, when I would get up in the morning, my hair would feel a bit dry. I picked up this Savvy and Chic 2-way bonnet. It has no exposed elastic and it feels much softer than my previous bonnet. I’ve noticed that my hair doesn’t feel as dry in the mornings.

  1. Hairveda Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner

Hairveda Sitrinillah Cover

This conditioner is hands-down my favourite deep conditioner. If my hair is ever too dry, as soon as I use this, my moisture levels are back. The moisture lasts for DAYS, which I don’t experience with other conditioners. I also love the fact that I don’t have to add anything to make it work for me. I can use it straight out of the jar. It smells fantastic too.

  1. Crème of Nature with Argan Oil Moisture & Shine Shampoo

CreamOfNatureShampooBottle

Another item hair gurus recommend is sulphate-free shampoo. I’ve used other brands in the past but I keep coming back to this one. It leaves my scalp and hair clean and it doesn’t dry out my hair. My hair feels soft after using it. After using the shampoo, you can detangle you hair. This is great because tangles are the enemy for my hair.

Best Beauty advice

Beauty comes from the inside out. Basically, what you take into your body (and spirit) will manifest on the outside. I notice that when I eat well, drink plenty of water, and take good care of myself, my hair and skin thrive. When I’m on the other end of the spectrum, it’s not too great.
