GET To Know: Liome Engele

This week on Get to Know we’re featuring Liome Engele, a Homeopathic and Aromatherapy therapists who also serves as the Director of Business Development at Laserderm Clinic.

Liome was featured on Sunday ‘s issue of Vanguard Vista Woman. (October. 6. 2013). As a skincare therapist I enjoyed reading about her love of Skincare, her thorough knowledge of the skin and natural remedies, as well as her advise on ways to take care of our body’s largest organ.

Below are some excerpts from that interview with Josephine Igbinovia

AS A NATURAL HEALTH ADVOCATE, WHAT’S YOUR OPINION ON NIGERIAN’S APPROACH TO SKIN HEALTH AND CARE?

It’s painful, the amount of chemicals some women put on their skin simply because they want to be light-skinned, it is outrageous! In the course of my duty at Laserderm, I meet women with extreme skin damages; most of which are irreversible! A lot of people don’t realize that whatever is put on the skin goes into the bloodstream in 20 minutes because the skin is the biggest organ of the body. All they know is that they want to be lightskinned.

Your body is like an investment; what you put into it when you’re young is what you see when you’re old. Then when these women get to age 50 or thereabout and are diagnosed with critical organ conditions, they begin to wonder what happened. That’s what they’ve invested in and so the body reaps the defect!

COULD YOU THEREFORE TEACH US HOW BEST TO CARE FOR OUR SKIN?

Use sunscreen and drink a lot of water so you don’t get dehydrated. As a matter of fact, dehydration comes with a whole lot of ailments. Unless you have issues with water retention, when you drink water, you pee it out. So, Drink alot of water because it helps your body regulate. Most importantly, gravitate towards natural things. Any product that uses a lot of natural ingredient is best for your skin; I use only black soap because it contains Shea butter, Vitamin E and Lemon for cleansing.

FINALLY, WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE?

Invest in your body! You don’t have to join a gym; I run outside! If you can’t run, walk, and if you can’t walk, Skip. Your body is a machine that you can’t get any spare for from anywhere. So, what you put into it in your youth is what you reap in your old age.
