The market for skincare products is beginning to expand and considering the needs of the Woman of Color. When it comes to the world of skincare, Darker skin comes with a myriad of issues ranging from inflammation to hyperpigmentation. But there’s a new brand hoping to  fill the gap  in the marketplace, courtesy of Angela Bassett. The ageless actress has teamed up with her dermatologist Dr. Barbara Strum to create Darker Skin Tones by Barbara Strum, a line dedicated to fighting skincare issues faced by Black women.

“African-American skin, or skin of color, problems [revolve] mainly [around] inflammation,” Strum told Women’s Wear Daily (WWD). Her new line contains “real ingredients which are scientifically shown to address inflammation”, and combats anti-aging.

This announcement was made by Bassett on her Instagram.  According to the actress, the process was about learning what works for dark skin “and to see what is good for it and ingredients that are helpful, not invasive or irritating,” she said. “I like [women] to be pleased when they look in the mirror, to feel good about themselves and the condition of their complexion.”

The five-product line already includes a foam and enzyme cleanser, luxurious creams with active ingredients as well as a serum. Proposed prices start from $58 and range to $335 and will be sold online starting in July.
